Static ip Sheet
got five static IPs one 5861 this is how its done
Five static IP block how and how it works.
lets say your static block is 64.109.x.24/9
you don't have to configure much in the router it sounds funny but the new system is rather easy.
OK lets clear this up for you, the block is
64.109.x.24 not routable
64.109.x.25 first routable
64.109.x.26 second
64.109.x.27 third
64.109.x.28 forth
64.109.x.29 fifth
64.109.x.30 public side of the router
64.109.x.31 not routable
I know now your thinking I thought this was suppose to be easy now look.
OK the 64.109.x.30 is assigned the router every time you log on
64.109.x.24 and 31 is the IP block range and are not routable.
64.109.x.25 thru 29 are routable
The new feature is for security and so you can still have dynamic IP's on your network.
Setting up your router.
Telnet into the router 192.168.254.254
login
type at command prompt
system addhostmap 192.168.254.101 192.168.254.105 64.109.x.25
save
reboot
go to the first PC that you need a static IP on right click on network neborhood click on properties click on TCP/IP [ethernet card] click properties. Click assign an IP address manually
192.168.254.101 IP address
255.255.255.248 subnet mask
192.168.254.254 default gateway
click on DNS tab
enable dns
host name is your username
domain name is your isp.net
192.168.254.254 add
isp.net domain suffix search order
OK
the computer reboots and continue to do this on the next four PC's
Now when you ping 64.109.x.25 from the outside world the router will route request to 192.168.254.101 64.109.x.26=192.168.254.102 get the picture????
