`British N gauge, PECO KNR-29. 15ft brake van (S.R.)

Peco `S.R. 15ft brake van' during building & testing, seen here in its first coat of acrylic paint with one of my `home brewed' fine chain couplings fitted. This model has also been fitted with an operational `tail lamp'. Before removing the kit parts from the `sprue' I very carefully drilled a 0.8mm hole through the lamp iron on the sandbox front by marking it with a small pin and then using a PCB drill turned between finger & thumb. It is illuminated by a 1.2mm diameter `Micro Bulb' hidden inside the sandbox, the bulb is coloured with `signal red' acrylic paint. As the lamp is only rated at 3 Volts I have also hidden a resistor inside the guards van area to protect the bulb from being worked `over voltage' when the track voltage is above 3 Volts. It can sit in a siding with power feed to the tracks switched from the normal controller output traction current feeds to a seperate low voltage auxilliary circuit specifically for stabling vehicles with lighting fitted. I am experimenting with different methods of power collection from the wheels & track, when I am happy that it is fully functional & reliable it will be painted, detailed and released into service on `The Stoneybridge Railway'. Unfortunately the Peco kit is not correct for a Southern Railway brake van, the peco model actually holds a closer resemblance to B.R. 15t brake vans, vertical narrow planking (Southern was horizontal), handrails over the ballast weights at each end (Not on S.R. type) footboards that run the entire length of the wagon. (S.R. had upper footstep below doors only and lower step stopped close to the axle boxes. I have been informed that the way to make a proper S.R. brake van for British N is to use the BHEnterprises etched brass body kit on a modified Peco chassis, which I will be having a bash at sometime soon. :)
