1.  If possible, NEVER go anywhere ALONE.

2.  If possible don't go out after dark.

3.  Be aware of your surroundings, know what is going on around you.

4.  Stay in well-lighted areas at night.

5.  Stay away from individuals or groups of individuals who show signs of  inappropriateness.

6.  NEVER go anywhere with a stranger.

7.  ALWAYS look like you know what you are doing, be organized and confident at all times.

8.  Look for anyone near your car or near you.

9.  Check the exterior of your car.

10. Check the interior of your car before entering.

11.  Use your auto alarm or horn as a personal safety device.

12.  Keep your car in good working order.

13.  ALWAYS lock your car doors while driving and keep your windows rolled up.
        At stop signs and lights, keep your car in gear and stay alert.

14.  Travel well-lighted, busy streets.

15.  Keep valuables out of sight in your car.

16.  NEVER pick up a hitchhiker.

17.  Park in an outside parking lot with an attendant is possible.

18.  Carjackers working in groups may use the “bump and run” technique.  If you   think your car has been bumped intentionally, signal the other driver to follow you to the nearest police station or gas station.  If you suspect something is wrong, don't stop.

19.  Before getting out of your car, make sure you have your keys with you.

20.  Before getting out of your car, roll up all windows and check your surroundings.

21.  After you get out of your car, lock all doors and move quickly away from your car.

22.  The number one place women are abducted and attacked from is at grocery store parking lots.

23.  The number two place women are abducted and attacked from is at office parking lots and garages.

24.The number three place women are abducted and attacked from is public restrooms.

25.  Carry an umbrella cane, or other similar objects that can be used at a distance, they are a deterrent.

26.  While you are walking, don't talk on your cell phone or search through your purse, wallet, or other articles because this makes you off guard and you can be easily overpowered.

27.  The time of day men are most likely to attack and rape a woman is in the early morning, between 5:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

28.  Rapists look for clothing that can be removed quickly and easily.  The number on outfit is overalls.

29.  Rapists look for women with a ponytail, bun, braid or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed.  They also like to go after women with long hair.

30.  Never park near large vehicles that restrict your vision as to what is around you.

31.  Always use all of your senses, (sight, hearing, smell, etc.) to help you detect potential danger.  Just like the rail road crossing, Stop, Look and Listen!

32.  If you should come across potential danger, or are attacked, REMEMBER, DO NOT PANIC!  Concentrate so you can REACT properly on time.  If you show fear, they will know it and feed on it, and you will lose.
