The Garuda biodynamic impulse is working
towards the implementation of developments Glen Atkinson (Bay
of Plenty, New Zealand) has made to some of the work of the turn
of the century German philosopher, Rudolf Steiner. Glen has been
working on this since he came to New Zealand from Australia in
1976. His interest has been mostly focused towards developing
Steiners Biodynamic agriculture and medical indications. This
has lead to many practical activities, from an astrological and
biodynamic horticultural consulting business and a homoeopathic
essences system being used to bring out the best in both people
and plants.
The Garuda approach to health develops out of an understanding of the spiritual and physical makeup of the kingdoms of nature. The 'bodies' used are those described by Steiner as the Ego/Spirit, Astral, Etheric and Physical bodies. We experience illness when an imbalance arises between these different 'bodies'. Restore the balance and the problem is resolved. Many situations over the years, with all kinds of pest and disease in both plants and humans have been successfully addressed using the Garuda Essences. These are homoeopathic remedies developed from Steiners biodynamic preparations. The use of bach flowers and other homoeopathic remedies extends the range and effectiveness of all remedies when in combination.
What has been achieved so far is just a start. There is still more to be done on further developing what is becoming a revolutionary way of viewing life and finding wholistic sustainable solutions to everyday horticultural and human difficulties.
Glen has been strongly influenced in this work by his Astrological studies and activities as an Astrologer. This has lead to Glen reinterpreting some of Steiners ideas into a language many people with a Astrological interest will appreciate.
These ideas have been expressed in several small publications, diagrams and paintings. The real results are in the doing though. Glens work in horticulture acted as an important cataylst for the development of the highly successful NZ organic kiwifruit industry. More lately he is working with growers on the development of commercial organic medical herbs. The methods used in plant control are highly innovative with the results really needing to be seen to believed. While yields are more than satisfactory usually, it is the control over growth, flowering, and ripening which is a most fascinating aspect of Glen's work. Garudas human range of essences also continues to bring relief to many common ailments of both a physical and psycho/spiritual nature.
