 Tarpon, the Silver King
Tarpon, 150 lbs. Its fun to see them jump bit I have heeded my kadam (teacher) and now practice virtue by not fishing (most of the time). Its always fun to find them, though and watch their silver bodies streak through the water. No, I didn't catch this fish.

The island is a mangrove island. This area is called "The Middle Grounds" and is a prime shrimping area for smaller boats that draw less than 2 feet of water. Shrimp come out or "pop" at night. The species of shrimp native to this area buries in the grassy bottom during the day. When their shells turn reddish and soft, the shrimp begin to gather along sand bars in deeper water and drift to sea on the full moon. The average depth of this area is less than 8 feet.
Rufus, our ardent fishing pal
The patterns of water that never cease to fascinate me. Here, in this colorized photo, a new bridge arises beside the old one- the old Sunshine Skyway bridge was destroyed by a collision with a freighter, (below)
April 30, 1987. During a violent predawn squall a freighter slammed into the bridge, destroying the southbound side (left). Thirty-seven people traveling in vehicles, including a Trailways Bus, plunged 90 feet to their deaths. One driver survived when his truck landed on the vessel shown on the left.
The captain spies about sharply like a tiger
looking for opportunity such as a bait flip or the swirl of a fish's tail.
Everyone looks forward to the Spring and Fall migratory runs

More smiles for the fisherman -

Bye for now!
