The Boddhisattva
Guan Yin or Kuan Yin is shown here on a tortoise's back. She is the "one who hears the cries of the world." She is often depicted holding a basket or on the back of a tortoise which symbolizes her fundamental role the mystical transition from pre to later heaven in I Ching cosmology. The tortoise shown here also hints that she is an I Ching diviner. Quan Yin is often a yidam (chosen deity or protector) because it said that she will wait on earth until all sentient beings have achieved enlightenment. By delaying her entry into Nirvanana in order to help other beings in this way, she demonstrates her great compassion. Quan Yin is associated with the ancient clan of distaff diviners and the Queen Mother of the West, their deity.
Her mantra: " Namo Shih Yin, Quan Yin, Pu'sah!" which translates : " Beloved Guan Yin, of the clan of the many Fu, help us please!"
Her hexagram is number 30, Light and Radiance.
The Fu Hao and one of the most ancient symbols for Hexagram 30, the yellow symbol above means "the clinging." The mystical fire that clings to the objects of the Invisible World and revealing them through divination.
While Heaven and Earth (hexagrams 1 and 2) represent pure yang and pure yin. The sun (Li) and moon (Kan) tell us that within yang is yin and within yin is yang. The Complete I Ching by Albert Huang.
