Infinity Wanderers is a web-site created by ameteur alternate history writers for others like ourselves. We aim to provide a 'permanent' place where our work and ideas can be displayed. . . We invite prospective writers to contact us for membership whereafter they will be free to publish their own work upon this site, subject only to editorial review. We intend to be inclusive, excepting only irrelevant and offensive material.
Alternate History is a genre of fiction writing that is neither historical fiction nor science fiction, but a mixture of both with historical research. It can be written in the form of timelines or prose, or as narrative story-style chapters.
Alternate History starts from a 'Point of Divergence' (PoD) - what was the one event that has caused the history of the world as we know it to change ? This could be something major (e.g. Napoleon winning at Waterloo, or Kaiser Wilhelm II dying when thrown from his horse as a young man) or something of less-immediate import that turns out to have a longer-term impact.
The essence of Alternate History is that the further you travel from the PoD the more its timeline divergences from ours. A change in one century will often result in historical figures not being born, empires not being formed or wars not being fought in the centuries that come after.
