Your own domain name is ABSOLUTELY essential for online success!

Well, if you are an experienced internet marketeer, I don't need to tell you these basic points. Fact is, a business without its own domain name is seen as second class by almost 90% of all surfers.
You can compare that when you go to a mall or a great open air market. Nearly everyone has its shop or stall named. The only ones that normally have no name and try to sell nevertheless are the ones that you find on the corners, sitting on the ground, and their products are on a cloth. What do you think when you see one?
You see, somehow similar people react when you have no own domain name. Hard, but true.

Now, let me list 9 points in favor of your own domainname. Your own domain name sends signals befor a visitor even comes to your site. If your link is seen in a search engine, or a linklist, mostly there are other links too. And then your own domain name signalizes:
  1. This business is serious!
  2. This business is credible
  3. This business is trustworthy!
  4. This business is respectable!
  5. This business is professional!
  6. This business works longtime!
  7. Nothing to hide!
  8. The product / service sold here is selling!
  9. You will remember me!
Now, not everyone that sees your domainname in a link will react the same way, but these signals are received! And if only one or two are received, it makes the chance that your site will be visited much higher!

Now, these 9 points must be seen in oppostition to the signal that a free website address for a business sends.
If people see a free website address in an ad, they react also. Some of the thoughts may be:
  • This business must make no profit as they must be on a free website, so maybe their products / services don't sell? And therefore - it is not recommendable to buy here.
  • This business people are stingy, that gives me a bad impression.
  • A free website can be set up in a few hours, and you don't lose anything if you close it down. So it is well suited for scams, fraud, etc. (fact is that the clever villains have their domain names, but people still think the same!)
  • Free websites - this must be some sort of MLM, and I don't like this.
  • It seems that these people do not trust their product / service themselves, otherwise they would have set up their own domain name for the business.
  • and more.
You know, not necessarily all people have that thoughts when seeing that your business site has an address like: http://somefreeorhotcolour.com/yourname/something.html. But a lot do. Think about that.
A domain name costs you less than 100$ normally, and can be used on some free providers as well or better on your own virtual server.
