This is a
Farewell to Old Mound High 1917 - 1999 and to the Mound Mohawks, (now
Whitehawks).
Here you'll find pictures of Mound High before demolition, and the later
stages of the razing.
|
If you once went to Mound High School or lived in or near Mound,
Minnesota and are now living far away. You are the person this
web site was intended for.
|
I was not aware that Old Mound High was being razed until the process was
well under way. Upon learning of it I traversed the 2,000 miles back
to Mound but unfortunately I missed the bulk of the demolition. As a result
you'll miss it too unless someone else decides to post their pictures on
the Web. As I have previously noted I would be happy to post photos
and comments related to the school for anyone who is willing to provide them,
crediting them for the submission.

Rather than use my low tech, 30 year old Pentax SLR, I used a high tech self
adjusting self focusing modern camera. This was a mistake. Some of my
pictures, especially those involving lower light levels, are not focused
so I hope a bad picture is better than nothing.
|
One of the ways I reduced the photo
count was to make "montages".
I created a "Scroll Right" icon (below) to remind you to use your horizontal
scroll bar to see it all, whether the picture is actually a montage
or just too large to fit the "average monitor".
Don't try to scroll with the icon itself, it won't work.

|
The montages were an afterthought, so it's no wonder that they don't match.
I just "masking taped" them together and stuck them on the scanner.
The larger the montage the more distorted the thumbnail will be, and
the longer it will take to load. They range from 90 to 360 degrees,
and are worth seeing if you've been away from Mound for many years.
|
Many people will not want to view all
the pictures so I have selected about 40 of the school for a
Quick Tour which are either the
best or most representative. I have marked these with a small
blue triangle under the thumb
nails.
|
Although I missed most of the Mound
High demolition, and was not able to get any interior shots, I have
some external before and after pictures and the few good ones I got during
the later phases. Also the pictures I got of the very end of Mound
high as the last wall came down. This was at 5:19 p.m and during the
short days of winter. Even with pushed developing of the high speed film
the images are vague, but they are the "last of Mound High" and
I doubt that anyone else got these.
