Providential HisStory of Jamestown
Listed below are a series of articles that I wrote and were published in
An Encouraging Word magazine which is now owned by Home School Digest.
These articles were a result of three years of study and research that I did to write a book focused on the 20 year life span of Pocahontas which naturally includes Captain John Smith and other important figures in her life. I pray that one day the Lord will allow The Providential HisStory Of Jamestown to be published so others may know that God did, indeed, bless Jamestown and had a very special plan for it and how foundational the work of this settlment was to the Pilgrims who were to come afterward for God's purposes.
For instance, Capt. John Smith was the first to map out the eastern coastline and he had wrote voluments of information that the Pilgrims needed who had considered hiring him but could not afford him. Therefore, they used his maps and writings and took Miles Standish instead.
Check out these forthcoming articles and learn the truth about God's Mighty Hand regarding Jamestown and the people God used to establish it.
I began this project simply as a two week unit study to teach my children about Pocahontas back in 1995 when the Disney movie Pocahontas was about to be released. But God had another plan. As I read through the many "Christian" books on my shelves about Jamestown I found many contradictions. What was the truth? God's Spirit put a hook in me and I had an unquenchable thirst for the truth. I wanted to teach my children what God's plan and purpose was for this time period of 20 years that spanned the life of Pocahontas.
He led me on a path and taught me many things. I discovered that HisStory was re-written in this country as a result of the Civil War--War Between the States because the North won! I learned that up until this war that Capt. John Smith was known in our early American HisStory to be great and noble and was the Father of Virginia just as George Washington was honest and was known to be the Father of Our Country.
This path led me to primary and secondary documents written by Alexander Whitaker who was the Apostle to Virginia--a missionary and the written works of Capt. John Smith along with other writings of the time period. Mr. Whitaker was stirred by God to leave his life of comfort in England to go to a savage land where he taught Pocahontas English, manners and God's Word. She was his only convert yet he remained faithful to his calling amongst savages and the swamps until his death.
I hope you will enjoy this series of articles. Please be patient as we work to update this website with such remembrances of what God has done.
