Types Of Divination
Palmistry(Cheiromancy)- when you look at a persons hand, there are lines that have certain meanings. Depending on length, shape, patterns, depth and overall appearance, these will explain a person's life and what the possibilities are in their journey.
Cards(Cartomancy)- there are many types of cards that are used in divination. The most common being Tarot. The cards are usually layed out in a particular spread. With each position having a different meaning.
Tea Leaves(Tasseomancy)- this is done by having a person drink tea with tea leaves. The pattern that is made by the leaves at the bottom of the cup reveals certain aspect of a person's life.
Numerology - This involves the interpretation of numbers as they relate to a particular subject, such as a person's name (translated into numbers). For example, JOHN translates into "2" (J=10, O=15, H=8, N=14, 10+15+8+14=47, 4+7=11, 1+1=2). The number 2 is associated with feminine creative energies.
Pendulum(Dowsing) - Pendulums are used to answer "yes or no" questions by placing them over the projective palm of the person asking the question and interpreting the way the pendulum swings. Use a few test questions first to determine how the pendulum will respond to that person's energy. Sometimes you will get better results by swinging the pendulum over the appropriate chakra instead.
Graphology - This is the study of a person's handwriting. You can ask someone to write about their question and analyze the results. This involves quite a bit of study to perform properly.
I-Ching - This method is a quick and inexpensive divination tool. All you need are three different sized coins and an I-Ching book to interpret the results. Any coins will do (even homemade ones), but traditionally Chinese coins are used. The coins are tossed and the results are analyzed according to how each coin comes up; heads or tails. It's easy to get started with the I-Ching, and you can start doing accurate readings very quickly. However, with sufficient practice and study, the I-Ching can provide incredibly complex and accurate readings . As with anything in the Craft, you get out of it what you put in.
Stones(Lithomancy) - This is a lot like the practice of "Throwing the Bones" as seen in some movies featuring Amazon Shamans or Voodoo practioners. Several stones of different size, shape and colour are thrown on the ground and the answer is gleaned from the position and orientation of the stones relative to each other or to a central "anchor stone". There are probably as many different ways to do this as there were people who did it. If you are interested in this type of divination, you may want to do a little research to find a method that appeals to you.
Runes - There are several different runic alphabets, but typically the Elder Futharc (Norse Alphabet) is used in rune reading. One or more runes are drawn from a container holding the runes, and the answer is interpreted from the meaning of each rune, the order in which it was drawn and its orientation(wether it appears right-side up, or upside down).
Crystal Ball Gazing
This technique is best if done with a Crystal Ball 2-5 inches in diameter and works best on nights of the full moon.
Light one or two candles in a darkened, quiet room. You can hold the crystal or place it on a stand, but it should have a blue or black velvet cloth underneath it. Make sure that there are no reflections from anything showing in the ball. You can also burn incense if you wish. Patchouli works great for me.
Before beginning, center yourself. Gaze into the ball, but do not stare. Try not to blink that much. While you are gazing, breathe in and out slowly and deeply. Just relax and gaze. You will feel a sense of limitless time. Enjoy the peacefulness and simply gaze. Do this for at least 15 minutes, and increase your time by 5 minutes with each succeeding session.
Usually around the second or third session, you will notice a small cloudy glow in the center of the crystal. This is your focusing area where your visions will appear. You may get a vision on your first try, while others have to attempt it several times before seeing something. Go at your own pace.
Just a small warning: Always remember the saying "Be Careful What You Wish For" while gazing. Think about what you wish to see before gazing.
On my third session ( when I got my first vision ) I asked to see a vision of my previous life. I saw myself burning to death in a house fire. That was something that I didn't really enjoy remembering. Now I find that it is best to just gaze and receive whatever comes to me. Perhaps you can have more peaceful visions by doing that too.
There are also different forms that visions come in. You can get actual visions of places and people, or you can get symbolic pictures. Another form that visions come in are color clouds. Although no one has been successful in identifying what each color cloud means, the following has been pretty accurate for a lot of seers.
Blue clouds symbolize success of career or business
Gold clouds symbolize prosperity, steady cash flow, and renewed romance to come
Gray/Dark gray symbolize ill fortune
Black clouds symbolize some seriously bad stuff coming one's way
Green clouds symbolize health, happiness of the heart
Orange clouds symbolize hidden aggression and anger, troubled emotions
Red clouds symbolize danger to come. This person must watch themselves
Silver clouds symbolize troublesome times ahead followed by goodness
White clouds symbolize very good fortune to come
Yellow clouds symbolize upcoming obstacles
Remember to rest for at least 5 minutes with eyes closed before and after any divining exercise. Breathing should be calm, slow, and regular.
A COOL IDEA! While doing any scrying, try this. Get a pen and paper and using free form writing, unconsciously write down things while you are scrying. It will be neat when you read it when you are done to see what it says!
