    Death is a topic not all of us would like to endure.  Death to some of us comes not only as a shock or some awkward feeling, it is and experience in which we are not usually prepared for.  At some time in our lives, majority of us will make or assist in making funeral plans for themselves, for a friend, or for a family member.  This web site will hopefully add some insight on why funeral planning is important, and the thinking steps of what goes into funeral planning.


Q.        What is a funeral?
A.        A funeral is a ceremony in which a person's death is acknowledged and his or her life remembered.  In some cases, a funeral may express their religious beliefs concerning the fact of death and the meaning of life.  It is an occasion that allows us to give and receive social support to gather together and show their respect through the formal disposition of she deceased's body.

Some Funeral Facts FYI :

   There are more than 22,100 funeral homes in the United States employing approximately 35,000 licensed funeral home directors/embalmers and 89,000 additional funeral service and crematory personnel.

   There were 2,338,070 deaths in the United States during the 12-month period ending December, 1998, or 8.65 deaths per thousand population.  (US Department of Health & Human Resources, 1998)

   Of more than 2.3 million deaths nationwide in 1998, nearly 76% resulted in earth burial or entombment and approximately 24% resulted in cremation.

   The average cost of a funeral from NFDA's (National Funeral Director's Association) 1999 General Price List Survey is $5,020.36 for an adult funeral.
