Episode 1 - Pilot

Date: September 24, 2001

JILL HENNESSY (NBC'S 'LAW & ORDER') RETURNS TO SERIES TELEVISION STARRING AS BOSTON CORONER -- Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh (Jill Hennessy), a sexy, brilliant and fearless Boston medical examiner with a checkered career and a penchant for going beyond the call of duty to investigate crimes. After striking out in Los Angeles, the headstrong Jordan returns to her Boston hometown and her former job with the Massachusetts State Coroner's Office, where she reunites with her ex-cop father, Max (Ken Howard, "The White Shadow"), who's still haunted by the unsolved murder of his wife, Jordan's mother. She gains a measure of support from her erratic boss, Dr. Garret Macy (Miguel Ferrer, "Traffic") - who has his own personal issues; a newly arrived and confident colleague, Dr. Trey Sanders (newcomer Mahershalalhashbaz Ali); and forensic entomologist Dr. Mahesh "Bug" Vijayaraghavensatyanaryanamurthy (Ravi Kapoor, "Gideon's Crossing"). In this first episode, Jordan suspects that what appears to be a routine teenage prostitute's suicide might in fact be a coverup for foul play involving important city officials. However, while probing deeper into the girl's death with Detective Collins (guest star Kyle Secor, "Homicide: Life on the Street") -- the investigator on the case -- Jordan could possibly jeopardize her new job or even her own life.
