Do not bunch up-When you bunch up you make a larger target for the enemy. "Five men together make a good opportunity, one man is a waste of ammo."
Spread out when in defilade-Generally, three men per bunker is the maximum. One firing out each side and one firing over the top of the defilade. Any more than that makes an easy target for enemy gunners. Also, by spreading out you increase the area your unit can bring fire down on.
Use noise to your advantage-When moving under stealth use silent hand signals as much as possible. When you need to psychologically intimidate a foe make as much damn noise as possible such as guttural yells when charging an enemy line. A more subtle method is "talking the enemy out of cover." When you find an enemy in defilade call out his position to your teammates as loudly as possible. When the enemy hears this he'll try to find better cover or retreat. Be ready for him to move and when he does light him up as he runs.
Avoid becoming predictable-When firing from defilade you will pop up, fire, and pop down. Do not set patterns: pop up, fire 3 rounds, pop down, wait 3 seconds, then repeat. Alter your pattern so the enemy won't know when and where you'll fire: pop up, fire 3 rounds, pop down, wait 2 seconds, pop up, fire 5 rounds, pop down for 4 seconds, etc.
Avoid popping up from the same spot-When firing from defilade alter your position as much as possible. You can do this by popping up at a different height or moving left or right a few inches.
Seek cover when taking fire-When you are moving and begin taking you have 2 choices: return fire or seek cover. Always seek cover first. By moving you'll make a more difficult target and once you get to cover, an even more difficult target. If you return fire first keep in mind that the enemy has his weapon already trained on you, while chances are you do not.
Keep your weapon pointed in the direction you are looking-This will allow you to aquire and bring fire on your target more swiftly. This also helps eliminate the chances of you shooting something you don't mean to such as your teammates.
Use your numbers to your advantage-You are part of a UNIT for a reason. Use your teammates to overcome the enemy. COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY. Attack from as many angles as possible such as flanking and "pincer movements".
Focus your effort-Concentrate your force on a particular point of the enemy's line. The trick is to decieve your enemy of your focus with diversionary tactics. Give the illusion of committing your forces elsewhere while concealing your main attack.
*Defilade-The reverse side of an object minimizing your exposure to enemy fire. eg: the reverse side of a hill.
A WORD ON MILITARY PHILOSOPHY
Offense and Defense
Combat manifests itself in 2 different but complimentary forms.
Offense contributes striking power. Offenses aim is positive gain; it is through offense that we seek to immpose some design on the enemy.
Defense, on the other hand, contributes resisting power, the ability to preserve and protect oneself.
Defense is inherently the stronger form of combat. If we are weaker than the enemy we assume a defensive posture to compensate for our weakness. Similarly, to mount an offensive, we must develop enough force to overcome the inherent superiority of the enemy's defense.
Offense and defense cannot exist separately. An effective defense must assume an offensive character, striking at the enemy at the moment of his greatest vulberablility. The truly decisive alement of defense is the counter attack.
The advance cannot be sustained indefinately. The longer the offense advances the weaker it becomes. Eventually the superiority that allowed us to attack dissipates and the balance tips in favor of our enemey. This is called the CULMINATING POINT, at which we can no longer susaint the attack and
