Based on English law. The Supreme Court consists of a High Court and a Court of Appeal. In certain cases, appeal may be made to the Judicial Committee of Her Majesty?s Privy Council. However, Caricom members are to establish a Caribbean Supreme Court as the region?s final court of appeal, a change to be spearheaded by Barbados, Guyana and Jamaica. There has been dissatisfaction following a Privy Council ruling in 1993 that prisoners convicted of capital crimes and not executed within five years are to have their death sentences commuted. The Chief Justice and puisne judges are appointed by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition. There is a Juvenile Court.
