Dr Toh has contributed in many ways. These are some of the ways he has contributed.

Contribution to the Singapore flag  flag1.gif (28388 bytes)

The National Flag of Singapore is a symbol of statehood. It replaced the Union Jack, which had flown over Singapore for 140 years(1819 – 1959). It was the committee headed by Dr Toh Chin Chye (the then Deputy Prime Minister) which first conceived of and created the flag. Together with the State Crest and the National Anthem, it was unveiled on 3 Dec 1959, at the installation of the new Head of
State, the Yang di-Pertuan Negara, at the City Hall steps. Upon independence in 1965, it was adopted as the National Flag.

Contribution 1

Dr Toh said that if Singapore was isolated from the Federation, there will be no industrialization, no jobs and no trade. He also said that Singapore would have its own currency, which would no longer be backed by all five government. He also pointed out that fresh water comes from Johor. "Don’t let us just shout slogan of independence then immediately find that we have lost our livelihood and condemned ourselves and our children". He said Mr. Lee Kuan Yew himself did not know the details of the plans but still supported it

"The people are not expendable pawns to be used in opportunistic upon moves," Dr Toh said. "It has never deviated in thought of spirit from this objective even when it changed tactics to meet changing circumstances. Our tactics may change with changing circumstances but our objective never," he said.

In closing , Dr Toh said that thePAP was sending a Malay into a predominantly Chinese ward just as it had send Inche Buang bin Omar Junid into predominantly Chinese Kallang ward because it was a multi-racial party which aimed at creating a Malayan nation where every community

Dr Toh, a PAP member, helped in the building of this successful and prosperous nation. He was elected as the Chairman 14 times and was the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore. When he was around the with PAP, the PAP won two elections.
