The Truth of Saddam
The Truth of Saddam
The recent war with Iraq has cause a lot of conflict in the United States and around the world, if people knew what Saddam was really like they would think twice and support the United States and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Saddam was born in 1937, which would make his current age 66 years old that is if he is still alive.
Saddam was born in Ouja also spelled Auja (pronounced OU-JAW), which is a tiny village near the town of Tikrit, which is located in the northern part of the country. Saddam was born to a poor landless mother; his father disappeared and died before he was born, after his birth he was sent to live with his uncle, the uncle influence Saddams' life tremendously.
As a young child Saddam was linked to the murders of a school teacher and of a cousin, by 1957 Saddam at the age of 19 or 20 joined the Baath Socialist Party and applied to a military academy in Baghdad, he was denied entrance because he didn't finish high school. By 1959 Saddam was involved in an assassination attempt of the prime minister of Iraq, when the attack failed a wounded Saddam fled to Syria and then to Egypt, where he completed high school and earned a degree in law.
Then in 1968 Saddam helped lead a revolt against the government and finally brought the Baath Party to power, under this Saddam was named the vice-president. During this time Saddam made a secret police to root out the people who opposed him and the party. By the fall of 1969, Saddam had all political figures that were not associated with the Baath Party sent into early retirement, imprisoned, tortured, or executed, even people who were non-Arab, were accused of crimes and either executed or deported. Those included in this brutality was the former foreign minister, whose body was dumped in a ditch, 17 alleged spies, 13 which were Jews, the Kurdish village of Dakan (located in Mosul), in which the army massacre killing tons of people, another foreign minister was tortured and imprisoned for 15 years on charges of being a Zionist (person who supports the right of Israel to be a independent nation), hundreds of communists were arrested and tortured, in 1972 the first wave of people of Iraqi Arab, Turcoman, and Kurdish descent were stripped of their citizenship and sent to Iran, then the chief of international security along with 35 other people were executed after a report of conspiracy was brought about, then in 1974 the first use of chemical agents were used; the use of the phosphorous shells were used against the Kurds in northern Iraq, in March of that year, 2 Kurdish towns were raided and 8,000 people disappear, by 1977 almost 200,000 Iraqis had been stripped of their citizenship and shipped to Iran, five clergy and three lawmen were executed, and then in 1978, Saddam orders to kill all Iraqi Communist: nearly 7,000 of them die, these are only the things that he ordered while he was the vice president.
In 1979 the president retired from the office and the vice president, Saddam was the new leader of Iraq, many people considered him power hungry even people in his own political party, Saddam wanted to dominate the whole entire Middle East.
Then days after gaining power Saddam ordered hundreds of Baath Party officials and army officers executed after they planed to remove Saddam from power with the help of Syria, then the leading Shiite cleric and his sister were executed. Shiite is branch of Islam, just like the Sunnis, Saddam is or was a Sunnis, both branches believe in the same thing except they have different opinions on who should have been the next follower after the death of the prophet Muhammad, the creator of Islam.
Then in September 1980, Saddam ordered the Iraqi Air Force to bomb Iranian airfields and invade Iran, then the former president of Iraq died mysteriously, many people think the Saddam was linked to this, then the minister of health was executed, then in 1987, Saddam ordered that 4,000 villages be raided and some 180,000 people disappeared, this caused a huge depletion of the Kurdish people, then in March of 1988, the town of Halabja, was gases, 5,000 people died and 10,000 people suffered injuries, then in August of that same year more Kurdish villages were gasses causing thousands of causalities, a British journalist was executed of espionage, the brutality continues. This is about the time that International attention was rising to the country of Iraq.
Then on August 2nd 1990, Iraqi troops crossed into Kuwait, and occupy the country, destabilizing the Kuwaiti government, the United Nation ordered Saddam to with-draw his forces from Kuwait, as history goes Saddam did not do it and on January 16th 1991,  President George Herbert Walker Bush went on national television and said the following "Just two hours ago allied air forces began an attack on military targets in Iraq and Kuwait…this conflict started August second when the dictator of Iraq invaded a small and helpless neighbor, Kuwait a member of the Arab League, and a member of the United Nations was crushed, its people brutalize…tonight the battle has been joined…now the twenty-eight countries with forces in the gulf area have exhausted all reasonable efforts to reach a peace full resolution have no choice but to drive Saddam from Kuwait by force, we will not fail."
The 43 day war was successful on the allied side bringing victory, Iraq with-drew from Kuwait and the government was installed to the Kuwaiti people. During the Gulf War allied military officials acquired a sickness linked to chemical and biological warfare, this was known as Gulf War Syndrome. Also after the Gulf War, the CIA tried several times to assassinate Saddam but failed, then after another Shiite uprising thousands more were gases. Even on October 15th, 1990, George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st president made the following comment of Saddam, "We are dealing with Hitler revisited."
After the tragic events of September 11th 2001, the attack on the USS Cole, the bombings of American Embassies in Tanzania and Chechnya, there was no other choice except to root out terrorists where they hide. Under the courageous President George W. Bush, he has made an effort to keep America safe. The war on terrorism has led to the mountains of Afghanistan and to the Taliban, to the desert of Iraq to rid the country of a Baath Party regime that brutalizes their people.
Operation Iraqi Freedom; was justified by the consensus of the United States congress and by the dozens of United Nations resolutions in the past 12 years, these resolutions were on part what ended the first Gulf War, Saddam was to comply to all UN demands. The UN inspectors that were sent there in 1998 found material breaches, and discovered loop holes in documents, even during the Clinton administration; the Iraqi government could not account for military weapons and even weapons of mass destruction; those including anthrax and nerve vx agents, that they used against their own people and the countries sounding Iraq, these weapons didn't just disappear without a trace. If this is not enough to justify the use of military forces against Iraq, what is? Another September 11th, I think not.
