NEW REGULAR FEATURE!
DIARY OF A DOJANG - a story of ordinary martial folk(!)
Monday,30th April
Why is it tha its the end of the month and people still haven't paid up? I need a bouncer! They are supposed to pay up at the beginning. I'm going to have to get on top of it this year. Still its an ongoing headache. Its not fair on the kids to kick them out of the class because the parents haven't paid up. Besides, they usually just kick the kid out of the car at the door - I don't even see them! Sometimes I feel more like a babysitter. Luckilly I always have someone to take charge of the class if I can't make it (not very often!).
My new kick-bag brackets arrived this week ! Yes, I found them at last! Ordered two of them online (proud of myself!). Took them to training session with the intention of fixing them up, only Vicar had changed hids mind about drilling holes in his 'nice' (read tatty) walls. Give me strength! But he did say we could screw a hook to the surdy crossbeam instead (which is what I had originally intended before I bought the blasted brackets!). So brackets back in box! Wonder if they take returns?

Better turnout today all round! One of the kids who failed the grading phoned to say he would not be coming back. Not surprised. He wasn't really interested. Sometimes I wonder whether its the parents who want to train and not the kids! I really don't want students who aren't interested. Too much like hard work - makes me feel about as popular as a maths teacher! I was quite encouraged by the other kid who failed though - he and his mum came up to me before the class started and asked what he had done wrong. I told him and promised that if he did some work I would put him in for the next one. He seemed pleased and did seem to be making more effort in the class. In the past I've found that people who persevere after a failure often make better students.
I let the seniors have a free choice lesson, provided they worked at something. It gave me time to go through my patterns for a change. The others split into groups to practice pad techniques or light sparring. We all went for a run for last 15 mins. Not as fit as I thought I was! Must do some more runs.

Where the hell was everybody? Only eight juniors turned up! I presume most are away visiting "the other" parent, or grandparents etc. We usually have between 20-25 juniors. We got the breaking holder out and did some breaking practice, as the kids love it as a reward for turning up! The grading went o.k. on Saturday, but had two 'fails' out of ten people doing it. Fair outcome - they were rubbish - I know I shouldn't say it. Its just embarrassing for the rest of them when a couple of people obviously made no effort at learning anything. At least they were'nt seniors! Managed to sneak past Problem Dad on the eay out, so all-in-all a successful training session!
Still couldn't find any martial arts stuff in the sports add!!!!!!!! I'll have to carry on making 50 mile round trips to fetch stuff from nearest martial arts shop. There must be buttons on this thing that I haven't got or something! Did however find a company who delivers beer, and its cheaper than the local offie! So feeling a little consoled.

Back to training after the Easter break. Not many trained tonight in the junior class. We can't seem to get it into their heads that we don't follow the school holidays! Everyone too full of chocolate, so we just did some races with the young ones. Went through the grading stuff with them for Saturday's coloured belt grading. 'Banging head' and ...'brick wall' seems to jump to mind. Some of them are o.k. though. Pleased to see patterns recent extra patterns training seems to be paying off a bit.
Senior class was quite well attended, so we had a post-choccy blast out ; 2 minute rounds of sparring and move on to next partner with no rest inbetween. Some of the seniors went through their grading stuff for Saturday. Parents behaved themselves too! Not bad, if uneventful session on the whole. Must do something about getting new brackets for kick-bags....new kick-bags too come to that! Never mind! Saw some rather nice pads and other useful stuff in an add somewhere on this website; (can't remember where though! .....must work out how to use 'favourites' button on this thing!) . I'm starting to get used to this on-line stuff.....if only I could type with two fingers - let alone two hands!!!! I'll be back after training on Monday.

CANTON TAEKWONDO CLUB, CARDIFF.
Wants to thank all its members for the great job they did on the sponsore run on March 31st,2001.
They were collecting to send one of their junior members - Anna - to the European Championships in Spain during April. Well done Canton, and well done Anna for being selected in the first place! Good luck!
Congratulations to their chief instructor, Mr. Ian Lawes, VIth degree black belt. Another champion for your club perhaps? We hear you've trained one or two before! Well done all.
