General Info:
Trail length is 2 miles. This is a loop trail. Elevation gain about 500' (parking area to summit of 4,930'). This is a moderate hike.
This trail offers excellent views and follows the top of the cliffs along the summit ridge. These are sheer cliffs of 750', making them among the highest in Eastern America.
THIS IS A FEE AREA - All major attractions in Highlands Ranger District charge to park. As of January 2001 the fee was $2.00. This gives you a ticket stub to place on your dashboard and can be used at the other attractions on the same day.
While this is a beautiful area, sometimes called 'The Yosemite of North Carolina'. It is sadly over developed. Lots of Condos and Vacation Homes cover the valleys and mountainsides from Highlands to Lake Toxaway. The parking area for this trailhead is next to houses! But, once on the trail you will feel your in the woods. Week days are not too crowded here, but weekends surely are.
