General Info:
Trail length about 3 miles. Elevation gain 400 feet. This is a moderate hike, however since you have to make it part of a loop or hike a larger part of the Art Loeb that makes this trail strenuous.
The easiest route is from Butter Gap Trail. Trail drops from Butter Gap as it travels from the west side of Cedar Rock to the south side and then climbs the east side. Northeast of Cedar Rock you can get on Cat Gap Loop trail at either the first junction of Cat Gap or at the second junction which is only a few feet from the first junction.
The Trail never climbs the rock face(s) but it is steadily uphill on the east side. You could come up Cat Gap Loop trail and then west on Art Loeb bypass, but this part between Cat Gap and Cedar Rock is quite steep. If you take the second Cat Gap Loop trail down from the gap you'll come to a junction. At this junction you could take the John's Rock trail, Cat Gap bypass trail (short cut to west part of Cat Gap Loop) or the Cat Gap Loop (east part of loop down Horse Cove and back to the Fish Hatchery. So there are several trails you could take to make loops for day trips in this one area.
