General Info:
Trail length is 2.0 miles (one way).
This is a moderate hike. However, some care should be taken around the Outcrops on Chestnut Knob, especially with children.
The trail climbs most of the way with some level areas along the ridge crest. Near the ridge crest a 100 yard side trail to the right will bring you to Jacob's Fork River Gorge Overlook. Nice view of High Shoals Falls on the other side of the Gorge.
At Chestnut Knob, trail descends a bit to the Cliffs. Which are actually rock outcrops. This spot provides great views of the South Mountains and a view overlooking the relatively flat Piedmont lands to the east. Crowder's Mtn., near Gastonia and Kings Mtn., are visible. On clear days you can see the skyline of Charlotte (if you know where to look).
