Trail length is 2.7 miles. Trail starts off of Cat Gap Loop. This is an easy hike accept moderate near the Gap.

Butter Gap Trail is a wonderful easy hike. It follows Grogan Creek. The Trail travels through many Laurel and Rhododendron thickets and a little more than half way up you'll encounter Grogan Creek Falls. Butter Gap can be made into part of several different loop hikes from the Fish Hatchery on FS 475. At Butter Gap take the Art Loeb Bypass (Cedar Rock) to Cat Gap Loop. Adding these trails to your hike will make a loop of about 10 miles. Be aware that adding the Art Loeb Bypass (Cedar Rock) makes this into a strenuous hike.
