General Info:
This is a moderate to strenuous hike. Trail length from Newfound Gap to Charlies Bunion is 4 miles one way. This is not a loop trail so roundtrip mileage is 8 miles. Approximate Elevation gain is 750 feet. Trail is quite rocky (lots of shale) There is a good spring just passed Ice Water Shelter.
Start from Newfound Gap parking area. AT (north bound) can be found at NE end of Parking area, next to Park Monument. Trail climbs at a moderate but steady pace to junction with Boulevard Trail (2.7 miles) near Mount Kephart.
Charlies Bunion is another 1.3 miles pass this junction.
Great views, nice high elevation hike with hardwoods, red spruce and Frazier Fir. Lots of Trout Lilies in Spring. Great views and spots to relax at Charlies Bunion. Follow the AT back the same way you came to Newfound Gap.
At Boulevard Trail junction you can hike .3 mile to Jump off Trail or stay on Boulevard for 5 miles and reach the summit of Mount LeConte at 6,593 feet.
