Fort Gratiot Light,is located just north of the Bluewater Bridge,in Port Huron ,the Huron Lightship is just south of the bridge.It has been in existence for 165 year,in the same form.,being built in 1825.Manned by the Coast Gaurd,the buildings and the tower are in great condition.The tower did however collapsed in 1828,due to bad workmanship.It was rebuilt in 1829 and rebuilt again in 1861.The grounds are a Coast Guard compex,and protected by the Coast Guard Auxiliary.Even though the the grounds are fenced,it is easy to view the tower,from a viewing area,right on the St.Clair River.The large white towers quite a site,rising over 150 feet in the air.You also may be able to see in the picture,that the white paint has worn off in places,leaving the red brick shine through.This aging only adds to its charm.
