In a remote location, far from any major city, looms a large red tower
known as Little Sable Point Lighthouse. The tower is striking on a clear day
with its rust and reddish color contrasting the blue of Lake Michigan and the
glory of the sunny sky. Standing 100 feet tall, the tower sits on the sandy the Shore
in the middle of the Silver Lake State Park. The state Park is in the middle
of a sand dune area .
Even though the wind and the weather have not taken their toll on the tower,
the house that once manned the tower is now merely the foundation of the Lighthouse keepers home.
To get to this Lighthouse is very easy, once in the silver Lake state Park there are many
people willing there to guide you to the Lighthouse's parking lot. There is a beach on Lake Michigan, right by the parking lot,
waiting for you to picnic at on a hot summer's day. It is a wonderful place to be with meal, blanket and swimsuit in hand.
On a personal note, this Lighthouse holds special meaning for us,
for when we started trying to see as many Lighthouse is as possible, this was the first.
It is located on the West Coast of the lower peninsula along U.S.31,halfway
up the Michigan coast.
