Old Mackinaw Point Lighthouse

Under one of Michigans most famous landmarks,the "Mackinaw Bridge",was a once proud Lighthouse,"Old Mackinw Point".This was in 1957.After the bridge,the lighthouse was no longer needed,for the bridge lite the way!

The lighthouse was first put there to help ships navigate the tricky straits between the upper and lower penisula of Michigan.The lighthouse was at first fenced off from the public,but now,fully restored,it is part of the park that lay at the south end of the bridge.It is a large three story building with a tower just slightly higher.Built in 1890 and lit two years later,it is a great place to feed the seagulls and enjoy the sunsets.
