Round Island sits at the mouth of the main entrance to Macinaw Island. This proably makes it this most viewed and photo light in Michigan.I know I have many!Altough dates are in conflict,it is agreed, that it was built between 1895 and 96.By 1940,the light had become obslete and abandoned, and fell in disrepair. Finally allmost ready to collapse, in 1970 a united effort to restore it began.Today it sits as a beautifull monument to everyones efforts. Its red brick, contrasting the blue waters of the Straits and capped with black rod iron. The restoration was finished in 1995.To make it offical, a local Boy Scout Troup,#323, stayed the night, in 90 per mile an hour winds !All this was under the supervision of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association
