NOTES
on Copyright : All works included in this project
are NOT copyrighted anymore... however we'd like
to point out that this website has been designed as a research and reference
tool. If you like
what you find here, go to your local bookstore and buy the book.... most of
them are available
in inexpensive pocket versions. The fact that the copyrights of most of the
translations available
here weren't renewed means that there might be better translations available
right now...
on Spelling : All works included here have been compiled from other
sources,
although our spelling checker has pointed out several spelling errors we
have chosen to leave
the texts intact in the version we have found them. Some of these texts are
quite old, most of them
go as far back as the start of the century, spelling has changed quite a
lot, add to that the rather
esoteric differences sometimes, between US English and International English
and the confusion about
'correct' spelling gets really out of hand. Most of these texts were scanned
from the original books,
where spelling errors occur we have to 'credit' those to the people who have
done the scanning
and/or editing. We give credit where credit is due.. but alas that goes for
the negative sides as well.
Only when the spelling errors were very obvious we corrected them (well..
most of them we hope)
There is another dONAR website on the
web, called DIGITAL
POETS SOCIETY,
If you appreciate good poetry you might want to check it out.
We have the greatest Goethe collection in English online.
As a WWW
exclusive we published the Goethe Poems Collection
and as a bonus added the Faust tragedy.
Another WWW exclusive is Lord Byron's Don Juan (complete online),
For the hardcore poetry freaks we added Shakespeare's sonnets and poems
and a large collection of Chinese poetry.
Take a look and .. enjoy !

Chuang Tzu : English Translation of the
book by Chuang Tzu
The initial design document for the core component of the project.
Translated by Lin Yutang and released as HTML-file by Arne Morken...
thoroughly redesigned for the project
The translation is by some considered to be somewhat obsolete by now,
but
still we consider it very useful for historical and our very own purposes...
and therefore it has been left intact

Tao Te Tjing : James
Legge's Translation of Lao Tzu's classic
Strange enough we've had several e-mail
requests for a second Tao Teh Tjing translation.
This one, the famous translation by James Legge, has long been considered the
reference
and it has been made available online in the Gutenberg Project by Gregory
Walker.
We turned the plain vanilla e-text into HTML, redesigned it, split the
file in two parts -
well three actually the Gutenberg Project disclaimer included - and added it
to the archive
at your service ! Comparative Taoism is a bit a weird concept to us though !

The Tao of Physics : excerpts from the classic
by Fritjof Capra
Included are four excerpts from the Capra classic 'The Tao of Physics'...
Capra is one of the few Western scientists that has grasped to some
extent
what the Tao stood for, heavily influenced by Alan Watts though,
one must add
in all honesty.. some of the contents of the excerpts
presented here are almost exact copies of parts
of Alan Watts'
The Way of Zen..

Zarathustra
The Masterpiece that has given it's author a place in history, although
there still is
discussion whether that's supposed to be philosophical or poetical history..

Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus by Ludwig
Wittgenstein :
What can be considered one of the most influential philosophical books of
the century. And one of the most difficult to read as well... Included
in the archive because of it's intricate value and the influence it has had on
modern philosophy in general (post-modernism) and on other authors
included here e.g. Alan Watts, Capra etc

Krishnamurti archive :
Krishnamurti can be considered one of the most original thinkers of the
century. Although not accepted by official Philosophy as one of them, he
played a major role in the sixties and seventies, not only as an anti-guru
trying to free people from what he believed to be spiritual non-sense
but also in his discussions with scientists like D. Bohm.. Influential as well
in the later development of what is now called Transpersonal
Psychology..

Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi :
not to be confused with 'the Bhagwan' the later Osho, and not to be
confused with the Maharishi, of sixties fame.. Usually referred to shortly
as Ramana.. a very original thinker from India with a very personal and
down to earth look on psychology and spirituality (or what is usually called
so) The fact that
his books are available, in full versions and absolutely
for free, on the internet makes
clear that he has not allowed for others to
turn him (or his inheritance) into
a financial enterprise... interesting, to
finally see someone practice 'detachment'
without ever even teaching it...

William James' - Varieties of religious
experiences
anybody that has ever studied psychology or has read Freud or Jung
to name just these two, has noticed how often this book has been
quoted from. In an ever changing environment such as the always
developing discipline of psychology obviously is, a book like this has
turned out to be a classic in the true sense of the word.
Whether psycho-analysis, analytical psychology, psycho-synthesis or
transpersonal psychology, this book by William James is a reference
and has been since it's appearance in print..
Within the context of this project we're grateful that Mr. Nielsen has
given us his kind permission to use his HTML version. We redesigned it,

Erasmus : The English Translation of
his 'Praise of Folly'
Although throughout the ages considered to be a prank - it is according to
Erasmus' own words -
it has become a classic nevertheless and one of the all time greats in Western
Literature.
Still it is very much fun to read it, it hasn't lost any of it's critical
value, how much the modern
world may seem to have changed since the days of Erasmus.
