Breed Profiles Based on the Test Results

Different dog breed serve different purposes. They have their own kind of character profiles based on the breeds history and based on nowaday's breeding etics and thesis. Very few of the breeds do really match with their ancestors - to a certain amount it is simply impossible and to a certain amaunt this is sad - if not unforgetable.

It is in breeder's and breed club's hands to decide and describe what kind of a dog breed they are working with. Character Test results give basic data about the mental situation where one particular breed stands just now. This summarized data should also help in evaluating one single result of a dog against it's breed mates and the goals set as thata breed's optimal result.

This test was designed decades ago for evaluating working dogs planned to join the Army, Police Force etc. It was ment to help in deciding the trainability of youngsters representing working dog breeds. Highest point are given to a dog showing optimal strength of each feature tested.

For instance the points acchieved from "Mental Hardness" are:

+3 - Moderate
+2 - Hard
+1 - Tendency to softness
-1 - Extremely hard
-2 - Soft
-3 - Extremely soft

Scalint the points to desired amount of the feature distorts the calculation of summaries. To make the comparations between test results more reliable the markings in have been converted a new value, reflecting the actual strength of feature, on scale 1-5. For example the converted scale for the above example (Mental Hardness) will be after conversion:

5 - Hard/Extremely hard
4 - Moderate
3 - Tendency to softness
2 - Soft
-3 - Extremely soft

This conversion is performed for all the character features measured.

As an example showing two clearly different breed profiles, look at these two graphs:

The blue area on the profile describes the average amount of every feature for all breeds and all tests summarized. The yellow area represents the deviation of a particular breed. For instance if the total average for aggressiviness if 3.1 and the breed in question has a value of 3.85, the difference between these values is +0.75. I. e. this breed is significant more aggressive than the average and you can see this difference in the figure on right.
