Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge
The site is about 75 minutes from Tucson. Take Ajo Way (Highway 86) off I-19 west towards Kitt Peak and Ajo. At Robles Junction (aka Three Points), turn south towards Sasabe on Highway 286. Just before milepost 12, turn left on the Arivaca Road, and go just over two miles. The site is on the right. Please car pool from Tucson. If the ground is muddy, we may have to do a shuttle from the intersection of Arivaca Road and Highway 286. You can also come from the town of Arivaca; the site is 9 miles west of Arivaca. [Home]

Cat Mountain
Exit I-19 at Ajo Way (AZ 86) and drive west to Kinney Road (4 miles west of Mission). Turn right onto Kinney. Go north one mile to Sarasota Boulevard and turn right. Sarasota is clearly marked. Follow it east 0.9 miles past the pavement's end, then turn right onto the dirt road. Go south 0.5 miles and find a parking spot. To reach the registration area, go through the wooden gate in the fence and follow the trail through the pass 0.5 miles to the site. [Home]

Cave Creek, Santa Rita Mountains
From Tucson, take I-10 to Exit 281 (State Route 83). Drive south approximately 18 miles on SR 83 to the signed junction with Gardner Canyon Road (FS92). Turn west (right) here. Follow FS 92 and the O signs to the meet site. Note: The Cave Creek crossing may cause problems for cars with low clearance. [Home]

Catalina State Park
The entrance to Catalina State Park is located on Oracle Road (Arizona 77), six miles north of the intersection of Oracle Road and Ina Road. If you come on I-10, take Exit 248 and drive east on Ina for five miles to its intersection with Oracle. Visitors from Phoenix, take the Pinal Parkway to Oracle Junction, from there it is approximately 10 miles southbound on Arizona 77 to the park entrance. The State Park day-use fee is $4 per car. Follow the O signs. [Home]

Chimney Rock, Redington Pass
Follow Tanque Verde Road east out of Tucson. The name changes to Redington Road and the pavement changes to dirt. Continue up the dirt road until you see the rustic wooden corral, about seven miles past the end of pavement. Parking is 0.2 miles beyond this on the north side of the road. Watch for orienteering signs. Allow 30 minutes to travel this primitive dirt road. Normal clearance passenger cars will have no problem, but drive slowly. [Home]

Or... Follow Tanque Verde Road east out of Tucson. The name changes to Redington Road, and then the pavement changes to graded dirt. Continue past the end of the pavement 7.2 miles (about 30 minutes if you drive slowly). Watch for orienteering signs. Parking and registration are on the left. Passenger cars will have no problem. [Home]

Empire Ranch, Sonoita
Take I-10 east from Tucson to exit 281 (Highway 83); head south toward Sonoita. My guess is about 16 miles. You will turn off to the left onto a dirt road. Look for the O signs. If you reach the Hwy 82/83 intersection in Sonoita, you've gone too far. [Home]

Fort Huachuca
Important Notice: To gain access to this site, drivers need to show valid (current) drivers license, registration, insurance, and vehicle license. If any of your papers have expired, be sure to renew in time.

From Tucson, travel about 45 miles east on I-10 to Hwy 90 (Exit 302). Follow Hwy 90 south about 27 miles. On the northern edge of Sierra Vista, Hwy 90 turns east at a traffic light. DO NOT TURN HERE. Instead, continue straight 1 mile to the next traffic light, where you will turn right to enter Fort Huachuca. This is the Main Gate. Stop at the visitor center on the right to get a vehicle pass. Personnel there can instruct you on how to reach the meet site. (There are other things to see and do at Fort Huachuca--it is a National Historic Landmark--so if you are interested, be sure to ask at the visitor center.) The meet site is about a 20-minute drive beyond the gate. Please drive cautiously. [Home]

Greasewood Park, Tucson
Take Speedway west, going toward Desert Museum and Old Tucson Studios. The road will get hilly (ups and downs). When there is a downhill and a Pima Community College campus, turn left (south) onto Greasewood Road (there is a stoplight there). Turn right at the park entrance, 0.1 miles. It will be marked with an orienteering sign. [Home]

Lincoln Park, Tucson
From Kolb Road and 22nd Street, go east about 3/4 mile to Pantano Road (not Pantano Parkway). Turn south and continue about 2 miles. You will see Santa Rita High School on the southeast corner of Pantano Road and Escalante. Just past the school grounds, turn left into the park entrance. (Be Alert! At 22nd Street, do not use the intersection on the east side of the Pantano Wash bridge, which is for Pantano Road (north) and Pantano Parkway (south). The correct intersection for Pantano Road (south) is on the west side of the Pantano Wash bridge.) [Home]

Palisades Ridge
Drive up Catalina Highway about 20 miles to Organization Ridge Road. Turn left and, bearing right, go about 0.4 miles to the gate for Showers Point. [Home]

Redington Pass
From Wilmot and Speedway: Wilmot northbound becomes Tanque Verde Road. Take Tanque Verde Road east. Six miles east of Houghton Road, it will become Redington Road, which is dirt-surfaced, winding, rough, and narrow in spots. The meet will be on your left, about 7.3 miles from the end of the pavement. [Home]

Rosemont North, Santa Rita Foothills
Take I-10 east from Tucson to exit 281 (Highway 83); head south toward Sonoita about 10 miles. Turn right (west) on a good forest road marked "Rosemont Junction" (immediately following a roadside table). Follow the orienteering signs for three miles. [Home]

Rosemont South, Santa Rita Foothills
Take I-10 east from Tucson to exit 281 (Highway 83); head south toward Sonoita about 10 miles. Look for Rosemont Junction sign. Do not turn here. Go 2.6 miles beyond this sign to a dirt road that goes to the right; turn right. Follow the orienteering signs from here to the site. [Home]

Silverbells
Exit I-10 at Avra Valley Rd. (Exit 242?) Follow Avra Valley Rd west approx. 18 miles, until you see the sign "Red Rock via Silverbell Rd". Turn left on the dirt road past the sign. Follow this road, which is OK for all but lowest clearance passenger cars (i.e., low riders) for 7.5 miles to the meet headquarters. Signs will guide you to the meet headquarters. [Home]

Slavin Gulch, Dragoon Mountains
Take I-10 east from Tucson to Exit 303 at Benson; take AZ Hwy 80 south 24 miles to milepost 315; turn left on Middle March Road and go northeast 9.9 miles. Just before the forest boundary, turn left (north) onto Forest Road 687 and follow the O signs. [Home]

Starr Pass, Tucson Mountains
Take Ajo Way (Route 86, I-19 exit 99) for 5.0 miles west to Kinney Road and drive on Kinney Road 0.7 miles north to Sarasota Boulevard. At the end of Sarasota Boulevard (orienteering sign), turn right onto a dirt road; 0.5 miles to parking, at the end of the road. Go through the fence gate and take the hiking trail (ideal place to warm up!) to Starr Pass, the conspicuous gap in the mountain range, at 0.5 miles distance. The Start/Finish area will be on the Tucson side of the pass, at the same place as in former years. [Home]

Whetstone Mountains
Take I-10 east to Exit 302 (marked Sierra Vista and AZ 90). Go south less than two miles; take a dirt road to the west 0.2 miles south of milepost 291. At 1.8 miles, there will be a gate and a fork in the road, one branch turning sharply right. Take the other one straight through the gate (be sure to close the gate). After 0.55 miles there will be another gate, and another about 1.55 miles later. Then go another 0.6 miles until you see the site. Please be sure to close all the gates after you pass through.
