North Cascades Vacation
The North Cascades of Washington State is a beautiful area, with emerald blue lakes, majestic mountains, and of course, waterfalls. One of the first we saw was John Pierce Falls, which drains into the gorgeous Diablo Lake.
![]() Our favorite waterfall in this region is Emerald Pool Falls. It took some significant rock hopping to reach the base of this waterfall, but it was worth it.
![]() As far as all the documentation we have checked, this waterfall is not even named - not suprising though, as there are numerous roadside waterfalls in this area. This one is right next to Gorge Creek Falls, near Newhalem. Regardless, it was fun to play in.
![]() The water in Diablo Lake is crystal clear.
![]() While staying in Bellingham, we had a chance to visit nearby Whatcom State Park. The best waterfall in this park (of the 3) is definitely Whatcom Falls.
![]() Eagle Falls is located right along the road (Highway 2), just west of the town of Skykomish. Though not tall, it is still quite pretty.
![]() We spent several hours in Wallace Falls State Park, located near the town of Gold Bar. Similar to Whatcom Park, it also has 3 falls, however, the hiking trails at Wallace Falls Park are MUCH longer - over 6 miles roundtrip to the upper cascade - we got a cardiovascular workout! The first falls we encountered was the Lower Falls.
![]() Middle Wallace Falls is hidden behind us in this photo. Keep watching the waterfall pages during the next few weeks for many more waterfall photos from this trip.
