Mark Lockwood's Books
Mark Lockwood, conservation biologist with the Natural Resources Program of Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, released two crucial books this past year. His Birds of the Edwards Plateau: a field checklist (2001), published by Texas Parks & Wildlife is the first to cover the entire ecological region under one cover and is an excellent week-by-week guide to what can and should be found in the region. Write him at Mark Lockwood, Natural Recources Program, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, 4200 Smith School Road, Austin, Texas 78744 for a copy.
Your bookstore should have, or can order for you a copy of his masterwork Birds of the Texas
Hill Country (2001), published by the University of Texas Press. It is the annotated version of the checklist
and is loaded with history, natural history and bird-finding information. It is an absolutely indispensible work
for those interested in the birdlife of the Hill Country of Texas.
