Nubian Indigo  Unwrapped...

In this section I will share with you photo's of my hair, styles, and other essentials with progressive comments...

Transition...
July 2002

In the Beginning...

New Growth
<---------------

Showing Length
--------------->
Late August 2002

Compare this Pic with the One Above...Only a few weeks later...
<----------------

Another Satisfied Nappy...

I am a dedicated client as well as a dedicated crafter of...

Premium Spa Quality Products...;)

...My Initial photo testimony with more to follow...Let's Continue...

(Check out my Products page for my personal Before & After transitioning product listings)

Cornrows...
September 2002

Just luvin' them cornrows

One of the Best Protective Styles that I Have
As you can see I truly preferred to tuck in or attach the ends...

...This was in an effort to further protect my ends from the elements
However...
here is one Pic with the ends untucked...
relaxed ends yuck :(
<---------------

And another complete cornrow style
-------------->
The combo of protective styling and superior products truly grew my hair out...
...giving me healthy & happy nappy hair ;)
At this point of my transition I wore HEADWRAPS...
What I would do is cover my cornrowed hairstyle with a silk scarf...and then follow with a cotton or linen headwrap...
That was the best way to keep my hair protected from the somewhat moisture reducing frabrics.  And I would match up my wrap to my outfit...it was ALL GOOD...lol

Wash &  Trim...
Or should I state Trim and Wash..lol

September 2002

B4 trim...ends close up
<--------------
I prefer to section hair and trim ends...ez & accurate
--------------->
After the cut...as you can see I don't play when it comes to the trim...Which was done on a monthly basis... about 1/2 ''
After the cut and B4 the wash & condition
<------------------------------->
Look at all of those relaxed ends...that red color was a great meter
More ends shown out...my nappy hair was coming up very well though...
<----------------

Baking Soda & Shampoo Wash... Clarifying Treatment
---------------->
Wet hair pic close up...roots are pulling up
<----------------

Pic of the back of my freshly washed hair...
--------------->
Now I am getting ready to cornrow my hair...the base (roots) were getting so thick this was the best way ...Section, comb out, style...
That was my transition routine...cut away those dead relaxed ends OFF...kept just enough for a decent cornrowed style...  This was done on a monthly basis at about 1/2 '' or so... Which was fine with me since my hair was growing on an average of about 1" a month...
(some months it was more like 1 & 3/4 "...my Recovery Scalp Oil combined with my Conditioning Hair Smoothie is NO JOKE...)

...Besides, what does it matter when the goal is to completely step away from the effects of the creamy crack and go forth with my natural hair...there really is no compromise...;)

Pre-BIG  CHOP Stylin'...
December 2002

My very first attempt at two strand twists...still rollin' with just a bit of the relaxed ends left...
...but all of that will soon change...

Almost time for the Big Chop...
Yes...so far I would have to say that this should be the last bit of extensions in my head...

Very ez to do...
I attatched loose hair onto cornrows...secured with hair pins...
( the 'U' shaped ones without the crimps)

And Voila... Instant 'DO' for the next 3-5 days
Now I wanted to start wearing my hair out and started to experiment on myself...to see exactly what I would be able to wear without relying on the headwraps that I had become SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fond of...

BIG  CHOP DAY...
Transition OVAH!!!
December 2002

Just washed &
my Hair blown out ready for the Chop...
<---------------
Chop AWAY... soon after I am having my hair styled...
--------------->
Curled with a hot iron into small ringlets and then finger combed
<-------------
Me &
High Fashion Hairstylist
-------------->
What a fantastic day of pleasure and luxury that was...AHH...Keith definitely knows how to treat his clients right.  It was so delightful to be in a relaxed atmosphere.
(not my kitchen...or living room...lol)

So the experience was truly uplifting for me...being a stylist
(yes I am into that realm of beautification as well...;) HOLLA!)
myself that ALWAYS does EVERYTHING for my hair myself...it was a load off...WHEW!!
Although the style was quite lovely...I don't expect I will be using a curling iron for anything anytime soon.  I barely even use my ionic hair dryer these days...as time goes on it just gets more simple for me.  Lucky for me I don't rely on any of those devices ANYMORE...:)
Next time I would probably opt for soft rubberized flexi-rollers.  Hey, now I gotta try that one out...

Post Transition...The New Me!!
March 2003

Cornrows taken out...

Getting ready to section for a trim...
That's the back of the cornrow out...
<-------------

This is my hair after my trim...

Just gotta wash it up now...
------------->
Just washed and  put into large sections... braided and then tucked under...

Air dry...
Now I have unraveled my tucked in braids and wear it out in a puff
<--------------

Getting ready to go to an event...I look soooo serious...lol
-------------->
Oh yes the magical puff...lol...that is like the first thing that I was so anxious to pull off.
Serious Nappy Style...:)
I used my Conditioning Hair Smoothie and my Recovery Scalp Oil for this style & maintenance.

Twists...
May 2003

I luv this style...ez...
convenient
And lasts for a whole week...at least...
Just spritz and go...

Sometimes
I may wear a headband or
mini-scarf
to jazz it up even further...

...too cute
Compare these pics to my December Twist pics...

WOW...what a difference a few months have made...

I know that I'm happy about it...;)
I used my Conditioning Hair Smoothie and my Recovery Scalp Oil for this style & maintenance.

AFRO!!!
June 2003

AFRO...I am rocking my B.A.A.
& just luvin' it.

I am VERY satisfied with the look and feel of my fro...
...especially when it's compared to earlier pics of my hair all out...

...Now it's all thick and rich like NEVER before

The AFRO Puff
August 2003

My latest 'DO' the PUFF...I am also a high fan of the twists...still

....So I go back & forth...
...between the two styles...

I no longer tuck in the braid but wrap it around itself instead for Bantu Knots
<------------>
Then I unbraid and fluff up the base (roots) with a rat tail pick...

...Then create this puff using a bra-strap head band

After washing my hair I smear on a bit of my Conditioning Hair Smoothie for my hair and then beging to part my hair in sections...as I section I oil my scalp with my Recovery Scalp Oil and massage it  into my scalp...style the knots...air dry...take out...That's it...
I use only FOUR products now...Shampoo, Conditioner, Conditioning Hair Smoothie, & my
Recovery Scalp Oil
(hair growth & thickness)
As you can see my hair has filled out in those sparse areas...& is continuing to grow fearlessly...I am just so delighted that I am now able to place my puff on the TOP...LOL...
...My hair is already starting to exceed the average length
(and most CERTAINLY IN DENSITY as well)
of my former relaxed mess I had on top of my head...
...I am soooo proud of my African Hair, My Natural Hair...

The  Latest...
December 2003

SOOOOO Wanting to get away from using my Bra-Strap Headband I have been cruisin' for New Bounty of Do's that don't need to use one...

Here they are...
I REALLY, REALLY...like this style....

...SOOOOO EZEEE

<---------------------

That is how I start it out...

(my hair grows well on the Top/Sides)

Then I wrap up the ends around themselves forming a bantu 'type' knot
VOILA!
December 2003

I Cornrowed my hair all the way to the nape area in a pattern...
Then ...I loosened up the ends up until a certain point...to create this face framing crown...

...I LUV IT!!

My hair seems to grow in a 'Wedge' pattern Naturally...

Over picked the ends a bit more than I had intended to.
For more texture...I did not pick out the ends this time and just fluffed it up at the roots in an effort to rid the style of 'parts'...all while maintaining the texture or the loosened Cornrow.
December 2003

(Medium Size Twists)

Twists are getting STRONGER...but they still shrink like what!
...totally o.k. with that though...that is the nature of my hair...;)

(Check out my Products page for my personal Before & After transitioning product listings)

The Shrinkage  Factor
See What I Mean...

...total shrinkage going on here

Compare the hair that is stretched out to the 'Twist' right beside it.

...Ain't that something..so don't be scared it happens to all of us!
Compare the Twist being stretched toward my collar bone...
with the twists that are 'at rest'...

...just another attribute of the nappy wonder that is my hair...

I could have the same size fro for  like the next year if I want.  The thickness would be the only factor to give it away...for those that are paying attention as time passed though...but you get the idea.

I am SOOOOO looking forward to the summer...no more 'summer cut' just the summer do that will keep my hair off my neck if that's what I want to do.
