General Guidlines for

GENERAL SOWING

Use a mix of 50% gardener's sand and 50% sterilised peat. Water using the tray system using distilled or rain water.Sow seeds on surface, try not bury them as some will not germinate if buried.

To prevent fungus attacks, check the seeds regularly and apply a mild fungicide . For preventive causes for delicate plants like Byblis, spray with dilute fungicide directly after sowing.

The seed pot can be placed in the same locations as the parent plants, but make sure that rain does not plash directly on the substrate as this can displace a large amount of valuable seed.

Most species take 2 weeks to germinate, but others like tuberous droseras require a much longer period. For Nepenthes, sow fresh seeds only - the seeds lose viability readily !

As they put out their second set of leaves (the non-cotolydons), thinning can be started. For droseras, several can be grown in a pot. The seedlings can also be growin in nursery pots with 7-8 plants per pot until they get larger, when they can be potted up separately, like Sarracenia.

Good luck !
