Artists have been in my family for generations. I can't recall any professionals; doctors, lawyers and such in the family history. Perhaps a lineage of financially poor souls, but definitely souls rich in spirit and creativity.

My great, great grandfather was a famous iconagrapher in Greece. My great uncles were painters and artists. My great uncle, Theodore, was a prominent iconagrapher here in the US, and his work is evident in many of the Greek orthodox cathedrals around the country. One nice example of his work is at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in California.

Click here to see a sketch he had done of a dome that was to be created in one church.

My grandmother and namesake, Christina Savalas, was an artist in her own right. She painted hundreds of oil paintings during her lifetime and exhibited all over the world. For a sample of her paintings, click here.

This Generation...

Athena Savalas graduated Hofstra University with a BS in Fine Arts. She has worked as a freelance graphic designer and all her spare time has been devoted to creating beautiful works of art. Coming from her sister, this may sound biased, so I'll let you judge for yourselves.

For a look at some of her floral paintings done in oils, click on each title.

My husband, George, is next on the agenda. He is an attorney whose deepest passion in life is painting. He has done some beautiful still life and landscapes in oils. Click here for a peek.
