Gardening with herbs is delightful. Located just outside my kitchen door is the parterre garden.
A traditional symmetrically segmented layout with box-edged beds. Each of the beds filled with
a variety of culinary and ornamental herbs.
I'd like to thank a good friend and wonderful landscape designer, Michael Chrobet, for designing
the layout of the parterre garden.

Another view......And just as pretty in winter...

Herbs offer a rewarding combination of being attractive and useful in a garden.
Herbs can be tucked away anywhere, growing happily in containers, vegetable beds,
flower borders or in their very own special place. As you can see, my herb garden
takes the form of a more traditional one, neatly divided into quadrants and beds with paths
between. The ideal spot is a quiet, sunny one with a protective wind-buffeting surround.

As for design and theme, let the garden reflect your own personal interest; whether
it be a culinary herb garden, aromatic or medicinal...formal or informal ,or just an
all-purpose herb garden.
A wonderful directory with a complete and thorough listing and description of herbs
can be found at the site of the department of horticulture at Pennsylvania State
University.
