The use of ornament has always been an integral part of garden design. It gives a garden personality, character and definition. Statuary is one of the most familiar forms of garden ornament.. Sundials, fountains, and orbs are often used to bring central points into focus; sculptured figures tend to be more directional and therefore are effective facing into an open space. Structures such as arbors, pergolas, gazebos, etc. define and enhance certain settings.. Free- standing garden structures can be treated as sculptural elements in terms of form and placement in the garden.

How does it contribute to the scenery? There should be ideal harmony between the subject matter and the desired effect.
