The International Space Station is a great breakthrough is Aerospace technology and worldwide cooperation. It shows the efforts of the worlds most advanced countrieson a common goal. The first expedition crew is due October 31...happy halloween to the crew. The first crew is already making steps to show global cooperation by visiting the graves of cosmonauts of the Cold War. Thats right, Americans actually having to swallow thir pride and see the first man in space. October 31 will mark the beginning of perminate habbitation of the ISS and begin a new band of peace over the world. The three people who will make the stay are American Commander Bill Shepard, Japaneese Commander Yuri Gedzenko, and Russian Flight Engineer Sergei Krikalev.
The purpose of the first mission is to basically make sure the thing works and the Russians will be the ones to do it. The mission will begin human inhabbitance of the station and it will assure the Russian ability to safly launch and recover its astronauts. The astrnauts will be launched in a Russian Soyuz Rocket. This ia a landmark in aerospace history as science fiction becomes science fact.

History of Astronomical Proportions (The Saturn V at launch)

There were millions of great accomplishments made in the history of astronomy. Galileo made the first telescope. Deep Space observation was achieved. All of these are gigantic accoplishments but perhaps the greatest was the landing of a human being on another celestrial body, the Moon.
When the Russians became the largest world super power with the US, tention grew between the two countries. When the Russains, then known as the Soviet Union, became the first to put an artifical satillite in space and put a man in space, the US issued a race to the moon. This race became know as the great space race. This race wold decide who had the greatest space program and who would be the super power of the world.
The US began constructing rockets. Some would launch, some wouldn't. The US took more time on each rocket but tended to have more success. The Soviet Union on the other hand would through anything in the air they could. This made production faster but made success more scarce. The US, under the brains of rocket scientist Van Bran, finally came out with the rocket you see hear. This rocket was deamed the Saturn V. It was lifted of the pad with five 10 foot engines. From personally looking at them beleive me, they are huge. It was composed of three main stages then a capsule. The capsule contained enough room for 3 astronauts. The rocket also contained a lunar rover, like a go-kart, and a lunar lander. 11 of these rockets would be made before success. In december if 1969, Niel Armstrong said,"Thats one small step for man, and one giant leap for mankind." The US had crossed the finish line.
