Skills

Coachbuilders need to have welding and panel beating skills, calculation and measuring skills, and an eye for detail. They also need to have skill in interpreting clientsí needs and skill in interpreting plans and sketches. They should also have basic maths and drawing skills, and the ability to work with a variety of materials.

Knowledge

Coachbuilders have to know about vehicle building materials, equipment, and how to cut and shape metal. They also need to know about Land Transport Safety Authority regulations and how to work safely.

Coachbuilders should be efficient, practical, accurate, adaptable and able to work well under pressure. They also need to be patient and tolerant, honest, reliable and responsible, and they should have good communication skills.
