Secondary Education

Coachbuilders need to have had at least three yearsí secondary education, with a good standard of English and maths.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for coachbuilders; however, it is useful to have a Class 2 or 4 driver's licence.

It is preferable to hold a National Certificate for Entry to Motor Body Trades before starting an apprenticeship.

Useful Experience

Useful experience for coachbuilders includes having worked in light engineering, the building industry, assembling vehicles, as a fitter and turner or as a panel beater. It is also useful to have experience welding and working with sheet metal.
