Who we are:
The New Orleans Orchid Society (NOOS) is a non-profit organization which promotes the exchange
of information on the culture and breeding of orchids, facilitates the study of orchid genera, and
fosters comradeship between fellow orchid growers.
Our Members:
Most of our members are from the Metropolitan New Orleans area, including the parishes of
Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Charles, and St. Tammany. We are people from every walk of life
who have in common the joy of growing orchids. Some of our members are experts, some are
novices, the majority fall somewhere in between.
Meetings:
We meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 8 p.m. in the Garden Study Center of the New Orleans
Botanical Gardens in City Park. Any change in the day or time of our meeting, in order to
accommodate a guest speaker, is announced in our monthly newsletter. Our December Christmas
party is held at the home of one of our members. Guests are always welcomed at our meetings.
Please sign our guest book when you arrive.
Meeting Agenda:
Our meetings are a combination of the Society's business and the orchid growers' pleasure. Guests
are always welcome. Our programs cover a wide variety of subjects relating to orchid culture.
Presenters may be one of our own members or an expert from another state or country. Each month
members bring their own blooming plants to place on our plant display table. One of our three AOS
Judges, or one of our more knowledgeable members, discusses the more outstanding flowers and
some of the interesting species brought to the meeting. We encourage those with problem plants to
bring them to meetings since our members are always willing to help with culture advice. Our
meetings conclude with a monthly plant raffle followed by dessert with coffee. Adjournment is
usually about 9:30 p.m.
Advantages of membership:
Monthly meetings with programs on different aspects of orchid growing.
New Comer's Study Group which meets at 7:15 p.m. before our regular meeting.

Growing orchids need not be difficult. It can be as easy as growing some common house plants.
Many orchids can be grown successfully by novices. They can be grown in a window, under
lights, in a greenhouse. Some can be grown outdoors most of the year in the New Orleans area.
Join us and learn more about these fascinating plants.
