The Vanishing Tiger Frequently Asked Questions

What can I do to help tigers?
  • Visit the Tiger Information Center for a list of tiger conservation organizations, and check to see if there are any organizations in your local area which you can write and ask for info.
  • Sign up at Help Your Cause and help any organization you wish, just by starting your internet surfing there. I suggest you choose JES Exotics Sanctuary as your cause.
  • Visit Care2's Race for the Big Cats everyday and help an endangered cat by simply clicking their picture.
  • If you have spare money, check out the Tiger Help Line and consider donating to one of the organizations listed there.
  • You can adopt a tiger at the Hornocker Wildlife Institute for about $27 US (or $42 CDN).
  • Make sure you don't buy any products that contain tiger parts. Examine the ingredients of products that bear a tiger picture, or have the word tiger on the label.
  • Simply spread the word that they need help... the more people who know are more people who can help. You could put up flyers or posters around your neighbourhood. E-mail your friends and relatives. Send holiday greeting cards with a message about tigers.
Can you e-mail me more information on tigers?
Pretty much all I know about tigers is on this website, but if you have a specific question and can't find the answer here, e-mail me and I'll see if I can help.

Can you send me anything in the mail? Pictures, info...?
No, sorry, I don't have anything to offer. Instead, try requesting info from any and all organizations that are involved with saving the tiger.

What are "golden" tigers? Do you have any pictures of them?
Tigers of mixed heritage may end up with different colouration patterns. The "golden" term is generally used by tiger breeders in private institutions/zoos. I have one picture of a so-called golden tiger here. You can contact 5tigers.org administrators for more definitive information.

Are tigers nocturnal hunters?
Tigers will hunt any time whenever they are hungry except for during the hottest part of the day.

  1. they are the largest feline in the world
  2. their colouration
  3. they are the only large feline with stripes
  4. unlike most cats, they love water

Are tigers stronger/faster/better jumpers than lions?
Siberian tigers are the largest cat in the world and so therefore most likely stronger than lions. To my knowledge, tigers and lions have not been compared for strength, speed or jumping ability.

Do tigers have any natural enemies?
Tigers have been known to be killed by packs of wild dogs. Tigers and bears tend to steer clear of each other unless provoked.

Where can I travel to see tigers in the wild?
5tigers.org has some information on possible destinations.

Where can I get info about raising my own tiger?
First of all, tigers are not pets, they are wild animals who can seriously hurt you.
Secondly, in most places it is illegal to own an exotic animal - check with your local authorities.
Thirdly, it is a huge undertaking and should not be taken lightly. You have to provide tigers with the proper diet, habitat, space and quality of life. Tiger care-taking is best left to zoos and other refuges.

Where can I learn about other big cats?
Check out bigcats.com.

Do you have any info on how I can become a trainer for big cats?
I am unable to help with that subject, try asking people who are in the business.

How do I save pictures to my computer?
Right click on the image, and select Save Image As...

Can I use a few of your pictures on my own website?
Yes, just e-mail me and let me know, perhaps we can exchange links. Make sure to not link directly to my files.
