The pivotal moment in which I began to finally fully appreciate this sense of 'kinship', so to speak, with the wolf, was back in October of 1998.
It was at that time in which I was blessed with an amazing opportunity, that not many people are allowed. I was introduced to, and able to touch, an eight year old timberwolf, named "Akila"- in the care of a wolf conservationist.
For over and hour and a half, I was amazed at the beauty of this animal, as we looked into one another's eyes. And therein, I was moved to tears, as I felt the 'spirit of the wolf' touch my soul.
I can truly say that I have not been the same since. The wolf, and in particular- "Akila"- have helped me to discover the 'wolf within me'..and that is something, for which I will be eternally grateful to this magnificent creature.

"Their pawprints lead you along the trails of discovery and insight.
To look in their eyes, forever imprints your heart.
To hear their howls, forever marks your soul.
To connect with them, forever bonds your spirits."

Oh Wolf, who sits upon the hill
In depths of winter's icy chill.
You sing your songs much to the thrill
Of all those who surround you.
Oh Wolf, the keeper of blue night
You sing to stars and full moon's light.
Songs from the heart, with will and might
The moon's energy empowers you.
Oh Wolf, who guards with knowing eyes
You have the knowledge of the wise.
Teaching lessons of how and why
To all of those who've found you.
Oh Wolf, protector of the old
Of family, young and stories told.
With loyalty, so brave and bold
To everything, you're bound to.
Oh Great Spirit, I do pray
That You and Wolf will guide the way
And guard life's roads and always stay
Watching every night and day.

In many cultures, our dreams are thought to represent our own subconscious thoughts, or our true desires. The symbolism within a dream can be said to represent a variety of ideas.
What follows is one of the most powerfully symbolic and moving dreams I have experienced, thus far in my life. Don't ask me "how" I know this- for I can not explain with words, it is a feeling deep within my soul-, but upon awakening, I KNEW the wolf within my dream, was a manifestation of my true "inner spirit"-- the "wolf within me".
So, I ask that you read the following, with not only an open mind, but an open heart, as well.
As I said above- in my heart, I have no doubt that the wolf image in the following dream was a manifestation of my own spirit- and as such, the dream shall be told in the 'first person form'.
It was as if I was in my 'pure wolf-spirit form'.... and I was wandering alone through the forest..rather sullen- apparently I had gotten separated from my pack. I laid down in the snow, and breathed a heavy sigh.
I was readying to close my eyes- perhaps 'giving up'-- when I heard something above me. I picked my head up and looked into the sky- and saw the most beautiful eagle hovering just above my muzzle.
The eagle spread his (her??) wings and nestled me within them-...and instantly I was comforted.
After the embrace-- my strength returned- and I followed the eagle's direction-- the eagle every so often looking down to me to make sure I was following-- and soon I heard the distant cries of what sounded like my packmates' howls.
Immediately, I picked up my pace, eager to find the source of the familiar howls-- and looked up to the sky one last time before greeting my mates, and when I did- the beautiful eagle was nowhere to be seen- ....except, there in front of me, was a gorgeous eagle feather.
I stood over the feather--picking up the familiar scent of the eagle who had only moments ago enveloped me in the most comforting embrace, guiding me 'home'...and for one moment, I mourned the disappearance of my majestic guide- letting out my most soulful howl- thanking the eagle for the love and trust I had found in that embrace, and for leading me to the pack.
And as I ended my thankful howl, I returned to my place within my pack- and we dissappeared into the deep forest...the snow falling upon our muzzles.

I have my own ideas of how to interpret this dream- but decided against posting them here, for perhaps you have your own thoughts on the symbolism-or perhaps you make nothing of it at all.
However you approach interpreting this dream, is a personal decision- and I would rather not influence your thoughts. Just know that, this has been the most powerful dream I have ever had-- and writing about it now, brings back the 'power' of that moment when I awoke.
This dream remains vivid within my mind, my heart and my soul. And since awakening that morning, I have felt a heightened sense of 'inner peace'...
