Books for Sale!

I am trying to occasionally get around to listing at least a few of the books I have for sale here (so far with little progress). Customarily, I sell on eBay, but I have such a huge backlog there's just no way I'll ever get them all listed and sold like that. So, for those of you who like to pick up a stray used book here and there, perhaps you will find something you've been looking for here. Click here to read through my terms of purchase. Simple and reasonable!

As 99% of my books are not listed here, please feel free to e-mail me with your want lists and (if you like) approximate price range you are interested in. You will find that I give pretty comprehensive descriptions of condition, edition, etc. for the books I do manage to list here. However, if you have any further questions, I will be happy to promptly answer your e-mail.

The Memoirs of Elizabeth Frankenstein

By Theodore Roszak
Advance Reading Copy

softbound; Random House, NY, printed on acid-free paper
(c)1995, First Edition stated
number line reads "2 4 6 8 9 7 5 3"
423 pgs., approx. 6 by 9 1/4 inches

Appears to only be available currently in the form of a mass-market paperback edition. This is an advance reading copy, produced from uncorrected proofs. (For those unfamiliar with ARC's: these are editions often distributed prior to a book's publication to bookstores and reviewers.) The note from the publisher printed on the front flyleaf introduces the book best: "Shelley wrote herself into what Lord Byron described as her 'ghost story' in the person of Elizabeth Frankenstein, Victor's ill-fated wife. And it is Elizabeth's brief appearance in the original that became Shelley Scholar Ted Roszak's obsession."

"It haunted Roszak that Shelley had not entrusted the Frankenstein story to Elizabeth's narration; he writes: 'Male voices dominate the book... I have long felt that the Frankenstein most wanted to offer the world lies hidden in an under-story that only Elizabeth could have written...' In what you're about to read, The Memoirs of Elizabeth Frankenstein, Roszak gives voice to Elizabeth, imagining a part of the story that, like so much of 'women's history,' remains hidden. I hope you enjoy it."

Nicely printed. Cover is glossy, and shows very minor cosmetic scuffing/scratching. Minor shelf wear on cover's tips/edges, reasonably limited, and one tiny nick in cover's bottom rear edge about 1/2-inch in from bottom tip. Binding is tight, spine is firm and square. No creasing on spine.

Pages are clean and an attractive cream white with nicely sharp tips; page tone is superb. One very small and light scuff soiling mark on page edge surface near bottom corner. No yellowing, no marks in book.

Price: $3.00 plus postage
