Biography of fight promoter Don King follows his rise from a street goon convicted of strong arm tactics - to a minor music promoter - to pulling off his first major fight with Muhammed Ali for a charity. Ving Rhames' characterization gives a fully three dimensional person with warts and all, but still makes it understandable how he became the affluent promoter he is.

D-Reper
Vondie Curtis-Hall wrote and directed this movie (and played D-Reper) telling the story of a jazz-trio. Spoon (the late Tupac Shakur), Stretch (Tim Roth) and Cookie (Thandie Newton) who is rushed by her friends into the ER after having a drug overdose.
While Cookie's condition gets critical the two friends desperately trying to find a rehab program where they can turn themselves in. But it seems everything and everyone is against their efforts. In one very dark (but also "funny") moment Spoon begs his friend Stretch to stab him so that he can be brought into the ER.
("funny" in a satirical way: while they discuss the stabbing they try to remember which side of the body the liver is !)The film is mainly made as a comedy but often you ask yourself: Why am I laughing?

May-Alice Culhane (Mary McDonnell) was a successful soap opera star, but a car accident has left her bound to a wheelchair. She returns to her now-empty family home in the bayous of Louisiana. She is full of bitterness and drinks heavily.
As there is no one else, she takes it out on the nurses hired to take care of her. One after one leaves her because they can't bear it any longer. Until Chantelle (Alfre Woodard) comes along. May-Alice is told that Chantelle is the last nurse she'll get.
Chantelle for reasons of her own, is also in a position where she badly needs the job to work out. The movie focuses on how these two women become friends and help each other heal emotionally.Directed by: John Sayles
