Cigarette-Smoking Man

The man who smokes Morleys, he has been the nemesis of Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully from the start. He was the one who decided to "assign" Scully to Mulder in order to debunk his work and cease his involvement with the X-Files. Even the stolid Assistant Director Walter Skinner is not free from his grasp.

He has access to virtually every govenrment or military installation in the nation; his influence stretches even to the Pentegon and upper government offices. His relationship with Mulder has been particularly tense. Mulder sees the Cigarette-Smoking Man as the perpetrator behind the abduction of Scully and came within a hair of killing him. There are those who believe his power may be waning as a result of the Well-Manicured Man, whom he answers to, and Alex Krycek, his "tool" gone awry out on a mission to destroy him. He's already come back from the dead before, though, so what is there to stop him from continuing his shadowy reign of terror?
