Basic Fruit Smoothie Information
from Lynn Webb

A fruit smoothie needs 3 things:

Fruit
Juice
Something to make it cold

Past that, everything is optional.

In the real world, here are some ideas and proportions to make a great smoothie for 2:

1 cup frozen fruit
1 banana (or something to make it thick)
1 cup fresh fruit
1 1/4 cup fruit juice (always chilled)
1 cup ice cubes/pieces

what you end up with is about 18-19 ounces of smoothie each....yum.

Things that make it thick:

*banana
*Ice cream
*sherbet
*sorbet
*any frozen fruit
*fresh fruit like peaches, apples, apricots, which have lots of pulp and less water

Things that make it cold:

*ice cream
*sherbet
*sorbet
*frozen grapes
*ice cubes/crushed ice
*very very VERY cold juice
*frozen banana
*frozen berries
*frozen peaches
*frozen juice

Things that make it tart:

*fresh lemon juice
*vitamin C powder
*orange juice (no sugar added)
*fresh pineapple
*fresh grapefruit or fresh grapefruit juice
*apple cider
*pineapple juice
*fresh lime juice

Juices to make it sweet or tart (or both) and thinner:

*orange juice (use calcium fortified for a healthier smoothie)
*apple juice or cider
*fruit nectars, any flavor
*Knudsen all natural juices (I like the ones with coconut)
*fresh grapefruit juice/or fresh grapefruit
*cranberry juice, any flavor
*most bottled juices, though the ones without 100% juice can also dilute the flavor and make it too sugary sweet
*pineapple juice

Fresh Fruits:

*apples
*apricots
*bananas
*mango
*passion fruit
*blackberries
*orange sections
*grapefruit sections
*carrots (small pieces)
*cranberries
*strawberries
*raspberries
*blueberries
*cherries, pitted
*kiwi
*pineapple
*peaches
*pears
*grapes

*Flax Seed, ground fine. (Adds omega-3 fatty acids. use about 1 T per recipe)
