'Pray for Power'. Look at the video cover for this movie. Compare it to the vidcaps from the same film. Notice the resemblence? No, me neither. Misleading cover art is a well known tactic for enticing renters to buy a particular video but this is taking poetic license a bit too far. The film itself is an erotic thriller which is neither erotic or thrilling. Heather Leighton (Lisa Boyle - an ex Playboy Pet if I'm not confused) is a model who gets chased around Boston after she witnesses a murder. That's about it. Film Rating 2/10 and Gun Moll Rating 2/10.
'The Deadly Game'. In some ways this story matches 'Pray for Power' in that somebody is pursued by vengeful killers after withnessing a murder. However it differs from the afrorementioned film in that the witness is a young boy (shades of the Harriosn Ford film 'Witness' here), we are spared the oodles of raw flesh and actually have some people who can act. The pace of the film is quite brisk, it is quite humourous in places and it is a bit of a surprise that the lovely Catherine Oxemburg turns out to be in league with the chief baddie. Just about rises above the typical standards of conveyor belt film making. Film Rating 6/10 and Gun Moll Rating 2/10.
'First Target'. Yet amother formularic made for TV film but once again one which is better than average. Nina (Ona Grauer) is a top assassin and martial arts expert and she has been hired to kill the US president. So she is equiped with explosive bullets and her compatriot decide that the President's visit to a ski resort provides an ideal opportunity to complete her mission.
Fortunately for the President he is being guarded by a crack team of bodyguards including one played by Daryl Hannah. Soon she is on the trail of the assassin but betrayal ultimately jeopardises her mission. Everything comes to a head at a ski lodge where the Secret Service become involved in a life and death struggle with the assassin and her cohorts. Daryl Hannah seems to be appearing in quite a few of these genre films recently but is always believable in her role. Ona Grauer is a knockout as the killer for hire and is perfectly cast in a good ensemble film. Film Rating 6/10 and Gun Moll Rating 8/10.
