The first thing I should mention is that by no means am I an authority on the series. It has only lately been shown on UK TV and even then the series has now mysteriously disappeared from the schedule. Much of the history I am describing has been gleaned from the numerous General Hospital fan sites and the myriad episode guides which exist. All I can say is that the popularity of this series amongst soapdom and its longevity are testament to something but I'm not sure what. So this article will concentrate on latter episodes and because of the nature of this page will also spotlight the history of the character Faith Roscoe (Cynthia Preston). Faith has been (or rather was) the real bad girl of the series for a few years now. Shortly after her entrance into the series she was commissioning Sam, the most expensive hitman in the trade (well actually it was a hitwoman called Samantha) to kill Sonny (Maurice Bernard ) - one of the notional 'heroes' of the series.

In order to pay for Sam's fee Faith had poisoned her grandmother to get the inheritance but even then Faith decided to repeat the trick on Sam herself. You can't really blame her though, Sam's reputation as the country's best hitperson wasn't enhanced when she failed to polish off Sonny as she promised. All this hatred between the two stemmed from their rivalry amongst the Mafia community and the fact that Sonny had arranged for Faith's husband to be killed. Anyway, for the next few years Faith plotted and schemed against Sonny and anybody associated with him.
Faith's final act before her unwarranted exit from the show was to abduct Sonny's children. Of course things were not as simple as this as Faith decided to impersonate another character who had a grudge against Sonny, hence the black wig. In addition a rather fetching Federal agent was on hand to help track down Faith and her Mafia gang. Shortly after this Faith was killed off and I don't think even the machinations of a soap scripter could bring her back now, unless of course there is a long lost identical sister somewhere. However this particular Mafia princess, gun always near to hand, is a loss to the show. There are other characters in the show who try to match her but more on these some other time.
