De Niro to work with Scorsese again?
February 4, 1999
From Mr. Showbiz.com
De Niro
is currently in negotiations to star in Gangs of New
york focusing on New York mob life from the late
1800's to 1950. If De Niro signs, he'd be joining
pretty boy (snot-nosed punk) Leonardo DiCaprio who
signed yesterday. It would also be De Niro and
Scorsese's eighth actor-director collaboration.
Writer Jay Cocks ( "Age of Innocence") will
be penning the script.
15 Minutes Up for De Niro, Burns
January 29, 1999
From Mr. Showbiz.com
Following in the footsteps of
Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, Brad Pitt and Morgan
Freeman, and Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, among
others, Edward Burns and Robert De Niro will try to
become the next hotshot young-old big-screen duo. The
Hollywood trades report that the actors are thisclose
to inking a deal to star in the New Line thriller 15
Minutes for writer-director John Herzfeld (2 Days in
the Valley). In the flick, De Niro will play a
well-known homicide detective who is paired with a
fire department investigator (Burns) to crack a
murder case. Production is scheduled to begin in
April in New York and Los Angeles, with a female
lead, described as Eastern European, still to be
cast. Michael De Luca, the bad boy president and CEO
of New Line, says 15 Minutes is a
"high-priority, fast-track project." De
Niro, who received around $12 million for the
action-thriller Ronin, will receive a smaller upfront
fee this time out, says Variety. But he'll get a
bigger cut of the back end, which means that if
audiences take to the pic, he could make a tidy sum.
Next up for De Niro is the Billy Crystal black comedy
Analyze This. Burns, the writer-director-star of The
Brothers McMullen and She's the One, most recently
appeared on-screen in Steven Spielberg's Saving
Private Ryan.
